Your CEO just got quoted in an industry piece. LinkedIn followers are climbing. Maybe there’s even a keynote in the works.
So…now what?
This is where a lot of companies stall out. A media hit here, a panel there, maybe a ghostwritten op-ed that gets posted and promptly forgotten. It’s well-intentioned – but scattershot.
You end up with a leader who’s visible…but not saying much of substance.
Let’s fix that.
Figure out what they actually stand for
What’s the POV? And no, “empowering innovation at scale” doesn’t count. Find the sweet spot between your CEO’s real expertise, your brand’s edge, and what the industry cares about right now. That’s your lane. Own it.
Make it a story, not a grab bag
If every public appearance sounds like a one-off, you’ve got a consistency problem. Start treating media, social, and speaking gigs like parts of the same story. What’s the arc for the next 3–6 months? What themes tie everything together?
Stop chasing viral. Start building reputation
One punchy quote isn’t thought leadership. Consistency is. Find a voice your CEO can use everywhere – from press interviews to team meetings – that doesn’t sound like it was written by a PR committee.
Respect their time – and their bandwidth
Most CEOs aren’t writing LinkedIn posts between earnings calls. That’s fine. Give them quick ways to contribute: weigh in on a trend, react to news, drop a voice memo. You shape the raw input into something polished. No TED Talk prep required.
Ditch the corporate glaze
Just because your CEO is posting doesn’t mean people are listening. If every line sounds like it was churned out of a buzzword generator, it might as well have been. Let their actual personality through. A little wit, a clear opinion, maybe even a metaphor that doesn’t involve sports, it all helps.
Use the spotlight wisely
Big launch coming? Regulatory news? Industry panic? These are the moments when a CEO’s voice matters most. Don’t sit around waiting for a reporter to ask – step up and lead the conversation.
Because when a CEO has something real to say – and says it with clarity and conviction – it doesn’t just boost their profile. It makes the whole brand look smarter.
Ready to turn your CEO’s visibility into real influence? Let’s build a voice that leads, not just posts.
